Accompaniment FAQ
1 – What does it take to be eligible for accompaniment by GRAVIT?
To submit a project proposal, you need to work for a laboratory belonging to one of GRAVIT''s member organizations:
CEA, CHU, CNRS, ESRF, Grenoble INP, ILL, INRIA, UJF, UPMF, U Savoie.
- Eligible projects are those that have gone beyond the research phase but have not reached the transfer phase (e.g. following an ANR project, BQR, PhD, Carnot resourcing, and so on).
- The main criteria of selection are the innovative and differentiating characteristics of your project, its commercial potential, IP availability, the availability and motivation of the project bearer for a valorization project, and the transversal nature of the project.
2 – When can I submit a project to GRAVIT?
- Projects may be submitted all year long, either to your usual valorization officer or to a GRAVIT business development officer. Submissions should be addressed to the GRAVIT Comité d’Engagement et de Suivi (COMES), which then consults with other qualified experts. The committee meets on a quarterly basis. View the calendar.
- A specific call for projects is done on an annual basis, and is called FOCUS INNOVATION. This call for projects is oriented towards a targeted tech area. Submitting a project within the framework of Focus Innovation allows you to take advantage of the support of Global competitive cluster , to potentially receive an award and therefore media coverage.
3 – What are the advantages of having GRAVIT accompany a project?
Beginning with a laboratory concept, GRAVIT provies you with the opportunity to build a technologically transferable solution for industry, or allows you to create your own start-up. GRAVIT's business development team is there to advise you and assist you in reaching two major goals:
- The first is to define, target and position your tech offer: identify potential applications, analyse solutions currently in use...
- The second is to identify, contact and convince well-targeted businesses: analyse the value of the solution to the given problem for the targeted prospects, create an adapted demonstrator...
4 – What type of financial aid is available?
Financing is provided with a view to establish a tech transfer.
Financing is disbursed incrementally during the maturation phase of the project.
- GRAVIT's financial support may be used to build a demonstrator, hire personnel, carry out marketing surveys, or participate in trade shows to make your offer known to the public.
5 – How can I size up the competition and market needs in my field?
Two types of studies are made available to you during your accompaniment process:
- Marketing surveys
- Studies related to the patent environment of your technology
- sectorial studies carried out in your targeted tech field to identify the needs and barriers in industry.
- professional trade shows where you may share a booth with the GRAVIT business development team.
- the presence of a GRAVIT business development officer at the business meetings with your industry prospects.
6 – How can I test my project’s IP strength, choose a strategy, and appoint a valorization agency?
An IP committee made up of all the valorization departments of GRAVIT members meets once a month to study each project that GRAVIT accompanies, regarding:
- Patentability
- Protection strategy
- Operating possibilities
7 – Who accompanies me in my technology transfer?
The valorization agency is responsible for the valorization policy, managing invention declarations and the IP, brokering, negotiations and transfers.
- When it comes to licensing or joint tech partnerships, the valorization agency will accompany you in negotiating and drawing up contracts and agreements. It will also accompany you in your search for industrial customers.
- If you create a start-up, the GRAIN incubator will be your privileged contact.
8- How can I make my tech offer known?
An innovation marketing department is associated with the business development team. Its objectives are to:
- Create presentation collateral for your offer, adapted to industry (technico-commercial documents and press release) and to take advantage of GRAVIT's editorial activity (newsletter, Twitter, regional press...).
- Create opportunities for industrial contacts: participation in national and international trade shows.
9- How may I take advantage of the training programs offered by GRAVIT and the GRAIN incubator?
As soon as you are a part of the GRAVIT accompaniment process, you have automatic, free access to all the programs.
Faced with a type of logic that is different from that of research, this training cycle allows you to gain knowledge, references, testimonials and other tools that will be useful in valorizing your project.
Access to the training programs offered at the GRAIN incubator is also available based on availability.
