ALPE
ALPE: Powerful, dense li-ion accumulators. Value-added materials: an opportunity for electric vehicles and powertools?
At the CEA-LCE, specialized in Li-ion accumulators, the group led by Sébastien Patoux develops synthetic materials and procedures for electrode materials of Li-ion batteries.» Description and functionalities
The proposed technologie aims to replace the graphite of the negative electrode of Li-ion accumulators with a titanium oxide Li4Ti5O12, the operating voltage of which allows users to overcome problems inked to lithium dendrites. This change makes it possible to attribute more powerful densities to conventional accumulators while offering greater intrinsic security and shelf life.
The proposed technology also consequentially aims at replacing the cobalt and nickel oxide of the positive electrode with iron phosphate LiFePO4, which is more stable (security, shelf life) and not as costly.
» Performances
The main characteristics of the proposed Li-ion accumulator technology are:- an eco-friendly Li-ion technology with high intrinsic security (no risk of explosion)
- a very high power level (>3kW/kg)
- longer battery life (>10 ans)
- rapid recharging capabilities (just a few minutes).

What are you looking for in industry?
"Aside from powder manufacturers, we are looking for industrialists interested in an innovative Li-ion energy storage system. Our target sectors are those needing very powerful accumulators and / or long battery life and /or a high level of intrinsic security."
What are your technical means?
- Crushing equipment (attrition crusher, drum crusher...)
- Calcination ovens
- A staff of 15 (on the synthetic aspect)
- A Li-ion cell manufacturing platform
